As we entered the museum it was like stepping back in time. We were staring at a large ketch from the 1800’s and hearing all the sounds of the daily action in the port. Seagulls squawked, bells tinkered, and sailors called back and forth to each other….. There truly is a wealth of information at this museum. I would not hesitate to recommend the South Australian Maritime Museum, it was really a lot of fun as well as very interesting. There is a lot of Port Adelaide’s, and in fact South Australia’s, history packed within these galleries!
I would not hesitate to recommend this as a fun activity, for groups, couples, individuals, children’s birthday parties and definitely for tourists wanting to have fun and see some sights (great views from the upper level). I also think it is a safe way to conquer your fear and an awesome way to test your strength, agility and ability for those wanting to challenge themselves.
The tree lined main road is picturesque and has an unquestionable village feel about it. Beautifully restored buildings now house restaurants, cafes and boutique stores. Walk the main street and indulge in the delights of the area’s varied arts and crafts. Visit the traditional lolly shop, the candlemakers or the puppet shop. Tantalise the taste buds with the wine at the Adelaide Hills Wine Centre, the local craft beer at the Gulf Brewery and the artisan cheese at Udder Delights.
One of the many remarkable things about Adelaide is its accessibility. To exquisite wine regions such as the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and the Clare Valley, remarkable wildlife areas, e.g Kangaroo Island and to glorious golden beaches. You are never too far from where you want to go… One minute you are in a vibrant, exciting city; 20 minutes later, you are relaxing on a gorgeous beach with a distinctive holiday atmosphere.
Sailing from Cape Jaffa to Portland we experienced large swell, early fog, sunny days and little wind. Fishing – we caught a tuna while trolling. Nothing beats fresh tuna! Great cruise.
This is the beginning. We have finally begun our journey! Kangaroo Island to Cape Jaffa, South Australia. – sailing, travelling, cruising, aboard a yacht! Penneshaw, American River, old fish cannery.
